For the last five years, Becky Marigo has been the director of Davis Community Meals. One of the first things that become obvious as I spoke with Becky about her position and her work was her passion and commitment to the organization and the people she helps. There are simply no doubts in her voice when she speaks about her job; she loves it. With such obvious passion and commitment for her work, it is hard to believe that she was not always so convinced that social work was the career for her. In fact, if you had asked her when she started at Davis Community Meals if she intended to work in the organization long-term, let alone become the director, she would have said probably not.

When Becky graduated from college, she was just not sure what she wanted to do. She had graduated with a B.A. in Social Work and had been volunteering since she was 16 in local schools, educating her peers about social services, but she still was not sure she wanted to pursue social work as her career. But, when she saw a newspaper ad for a staff position at Davis Community Meals, she says, “It just fit.” She was hired and started out as a family case manager, meeting with families in need and helping them find the resources they needed to get back on their feet. After only a year, Becky became the director.
