Anyone who spends time driving around the various neighborhoods of Davis sees for themselves the variety of styles of homes in our city. There isn’t just one style of home or one style of living. Individuality is one of the attributes so many of us appreciate about our community. Alternative or progressive construction methods like sustainable housing which often, but not always, result in a more modern design appearance, is another example of the diversity we are seeing in neighborhoods.
For this project special attention was taken to examine the lot and its surroundings. Most of the existing homes on Redbud Place in South Davis do not follow any one style; therefore, the contemporary design Sage developed is yet another style on the block. The angular roof lines were purposefully planned to extend away from the neighboring homes facing towards Mace Boulevard. Additionally, the footprint of the home is well away from the fence lines and several outdoor living areas exist which soften the structure’s profile.
In keeping with passive solar construction principles, the home with polished cement floors was positioned to take advantage of the sun. Walking through the front door’s entry, the natural light blurs the perception
